Ben Wallace Pleads No Contest In Charges Related To Late Night Car Accident

Toddler, 4 women critical after car crashes into pole on SW Side

The case related to a late night car accident where Wallace apparently plowed into a fence before leaving the scene of the accident. According to the homeowner, after the accident, the driver (presumably Wallace) was so angry at having crashed that he was bashing some of the wood rubble into parts of the still-standing fence. The accident occurred in Virginia near where Wallace went to college at Virginia Union sometime around February 9th and it isnt the first time Wallace has found himself in trouble behind the wheel of his car. Back in 2011 Wallace was arrested for DUI and weapons charges after being pulled over and officers finding an unloaded gun in his Escalade . While the story from Virginia didnt say anything about Wallace being under the influence, it seems reasonable to wonder what condition Wallace might have been found in had he not skipped the scene of the accident. Wallace can surely afford a car service if he wants someone to help him get home more safely. In his two years in Cleveland, Wallace was paid $30 million and over the course of his entire career, Basketball Reference indicates he pulled in more than $87 million, proving once and for all that blocking shots is much better than making free throws. Now go cleanse your soul and go read Bens post about Terrell Brandon.

Dylan Bryan said Blackmon was not injured in the crash, which occurred just before 4 a.m. ET Saturday on Interstate 295. [+] Enlarge Melina Vastola/USA TODAY Sports Justin Blackmon, who has violated the NFL’s substance-abuse policy three times since 2012, was not injured in a single-car crash Saturday. Police said alcohol was not a factor. Bryan said Blackmon, who has been suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, lost control of his SUV after a rear tire blew and the vehicle ended up crashing into the tree line. Bryan said Blackmon was examined by FHP officers, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue personnel and officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office — and none saw any indication that he was impaired. “Our officers are trained to look for specific indicators — for example, slurred speech, bloodshot or watery eyes, the inability to follow instructions,” Bryan said. “If they notice indicators like that, they can progress into a separate investigation into DUI. “He was very cooperative with investigators.” It was encouraging news for Blackmon, who has a history of issues with drinking and driving. Blackmon was arrested in Texas in 2010 on a misdemeanor DUI charge [later reduced to underage alcohol possession] after police caught him speeding outside of Dallas. Blackmon was arrested again in May 2012 during a traffic stop in Stillwater, Okla., shortly after the Jaguars selected him with the fifth overall pick in the NFL draft. A breath test allegedly showed his blood alcohol content to be three times the legal limit.
