Car accident in Walnut Hills sends one to the hospital
The suspect, who police have not identified, was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center with facial and head trauma. He was charged with driving with a suspended license/grand theft auto, operating a vehicle without a license, causing bodily harm and reckless driving. His passenger, who was also airlifted to Ryder, remained in the hospital in critical condition. A man in the 1988 Mitsubishi Starion that was sheared in half miraculously survived, Miami Fire Rescue Spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll said. When you see the car, its amazing that he only had a few scratches and bloody lip, Carroll said. Sometime early Sunday, the car-theft suspect stole a 2004 beige Nissan Sentra, and with a passenger in tow, sped away, said Miami police spokeswoman Frederica Burden. He was definitely driving recklessly, she said. As the driver weaved in and out of traffic on the causeway, Burden said the car clipped the back of the Starion, causing the driver to lose control and slam into a tree at about 8 a.m. just east of Pelican Harbor near North Bay Village. The Starions engine compartment remained in the median, but the other half landed in the westbound lanes. Car parts littered the street.

Without police involvement, there could be problems in the reporting of the accident. Certain procedures must be correctly followed. Oftentimes, a detailed police report written by an officer at the scene can make a difference for someone who wants justice to be served. Last month, the Las Vegas NV Cops Department formally announced in that it would stop responding to property damage auto accidents in the city starting March 3, according to CNN. The city made the decision in an effort to allocate their resources toward bigger cases. Previously, the police department estimated they spent 250 hours a week responding to minor property damage car accidents in Las Vegas, according to CNN. However, Las Vegas NV police officers will continue to respond to auto accidents in which someone sustained an injury in an accident, CNN reported. Las Vegas NV police will moreover respond to accidents if one of the drivers refuses to turn over information to the other driver, in addition to insurance information, license & registration, CNN reported. Las Vegas is not the 1st city to adopt this new policy of no longer responding to property damage accidents. San Diego, San Francisco & LA CA no longer respond to property damage car accidents, according to Las Vegas NV traffic chief Mark Tavarez, according to the CNN article.
